Worship Opportunities

The Season of Lent brings us additional opportunities to get together for worship.

On Friday, March 5, at the United Methodist Church, we celebrate world-wide Christian neighborliness at the World Day of Prayer, an ecumenical service which engages all local Christian churches.

On Thursday, March 18,St. Andrew's opens its doors for a Service of Reconciliation--Taize music, prayer, and meditation, starting at 7 PM.

For those wishing personal prayer or private confession, the church is open at 5 for those who wish to pray together or alone in the sanctuary.

Appointments may be made to for private confession, at any time. Call 350-4844 or email Mother Anne.

This service is open to all those desiring a service of reconciliation around the North Country District. It is a culmination of your own life of prayer and a sign of Christ's love to us all, meeting in community. The Rev. Douglas J. Marlow, from Trinity, Watertown, will give a brief reflection on the meaning of  reconciliation.

What is Release Time?

Release time is a Christian education program endorsed by the Indian River School District and run by members of the Evans Mills Ministerial Association, EMMA. Volunteer teachers and clergy from St. Andrew's Shared Ministry (Episcopalian and Presbyterian), the United Methodist Church, and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church meet the children at the St. Mary's Parish Center, right next to Evans Mills Primary School.

Who can sign up?

Any child in the second or third grade may sign up for our program--with parent permission, of course. We meet on Thursdays, from 9:15-10:15. This semester's six week program is about the life of Jesus. For more information, or to see a curriculum, call Mother Anne (315 350-4844)--or email me. Pastor Penni Farrington, Father Mark Reilly, and I have developed the curriuclum together, and musicians, teachers and we meet with the children for a wonderful time together. Parents are welcome to observe.

Who can help?

Church members are welcome to speak to your pastor or priest. We run a background check and hold training sessions for all teachers and helpers. Our work together has been blessed by the gifts of many--from musicians, to technology experts, to those with a gift for teaching and art.

What about separation of Church and State?

Our schools support your kids' spiritual life, while respecting their right to religious freedom and a religious education their parents approve of and support. By working cooperatively across denominational lines, we believe Religious Release Time provides such a program within a Christian context.

Law and Love: The Beatitudes
Feb. 24, March 11, March 25
Next to the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes in Matthew's Sermon on the Mount provide the second most important scriptural source of ethics and morality.

The Rev. Dr. Jerome B. Wichelns gives us this opportunity to explore how these ideas apply to our own lives in this three-part Lenten study.

Come at 5, for a "Stone Soup" Supper--followed by a sing along and the program.

Jerry is joined, for the musical portion of the evening, by the Rev. Bernard Robinson-in Beatitudes 1, Dee Caldwell-in Beatitudes 2, and Roger Dicob-in Beatitudes 3.
